Moth Balls - Traditional and Alternatives
The term ‘moth balls’ may bring back memories of a certain smell of naphthalene, a known carcinogen and derived from either coal tar or petroleum. We do not stock any products that contain naphthalene.
The issues with traditional, toxic, naphthalene based moth balls are the potential adverse health impacts on children and even adults in sufficient quantities, as well as the pungent naphthalene odour imparted to clothes being particularly unattractive! These are now banned in Europe.
Cedar moth balls are a safe and convenient way to deter clothes moths. Cedar moth balls are 100% natural product and the pleasant cedar fragrance is known as an effective clothes moth deterrent. - over time their effectiveness in transmitting the cedar fragrance may diminish in which case we recommend lightly sanding the balls and using red cedar oil to bring back the moth repelling properties of these moth balls. Our cedar moth balls come in packs of 20 cedar balls, or you can save more if buying in bulk and get greater coverage. We also stock cedar nuggets, disks and hangers.
